They join together in action alliances, form protest movements, organize rallies, block traffic and symbolic places, sign online petitions, temporarily take websites offline or attract attention with spectacular art actions. Protest is thus a central instrument of democratic interference, which in principle anyone can use at any time.

Thus, protests are always also about helping to determine the course of history. But how exactly do activists develop new visions of the future and new possibilities for action? Which visions of the future, dark or utopian, inspire protest? And how does protest shape the future?
