Our appetite for energy seems to be insatiable. The use of coal, oil and gas is harmful to the environment and causes global warming. Nature, however, offers other possibilities.

hydropower are already being used to generate electricity worldwide. In the future, even more of such tireless powerhouses will be deployed in previously unused locations and with new and better technologies. With the so-called renewables we could theoretically cover the annual energy needs of the world. And indeed permanently, because unlike fossil fuels such as oil or gas, they are almost infinitely available. But in order to exploit all of their potential, the entire energy system will have to be restructured.
