Every day, on public transport, at government offices, or in urban planning: in many areas of public life, data about us and our environment is being collected, sometimes visibly, sometimes less so. But there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to analysing these growing volumes of data and connecting them in meaningful ways. Some believe that AI will help with (almost) everything – simplifying everyday life, improving the way we live together, and making cities more sustainable. Others see many challenges ahead or reject the use of AI systems in certain areas altogether. Either way, AI will have a direct impact on our lives. Building and operating these facilities consumes resources and leaves a significant ecological footprint. To prevent the energy appetite driven by the AI boom from spiraling completely out of control, researchers are constantly searching for solutions.
