How we will share our lives with technology
Thematic focus: On/Off Relationship
As part of the thematic focus "On/Off Relationship – How we will share our lives with technology", we invite you to take part in some exciting workshops organised in collaboration with the Berlin Open Lab, the interdisciplinary research lab run by the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) and the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin):
What does love mean in the age of AI and virtual realities? Can AI distinguish between pornography and art? How is our relationship with ourselves changing as technology, digitalisation and the human element converge ever more closely, altering our capabilities and scope? How, for example, is AI changing the way we think? And is there a way to make invisible, abstract data visible, or even perceptible through the senses?
Let our researchers take you on an exciting, dazzlingly futuristic journey, armed with a wealth of playful, sensory and artistic ideas and methods, so that you’ll be well-equipped to engage with concepts such as ‘data governance’, “empowerment” or “cyborgisation”.
WORKSHOP PARTNERSHIP
The Berlin Open Lab is an interdisciplinary research platform at the intersection of technology, society and art, located on the Charlottenburg campus in Berlin.
Digital technologies have become an integral part of many areas of our lives and are bringing about profound changes in society. This calls for new approaches. The Berlin Open Lab brings together researchers and ideas from various fields to facilitate new forms of design.
It features a laboratory for digital production, smart material interfaces and wearable computing, as well as an experimental space for design research using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
The Berlin Open Lab combines artistic practice with scientific research. Initiated by the Berlin University of the Arts in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin, it hosts research projects from the ‘Einstein Centre for Digital Future’, the ‘Weizenbaum Institute’ and the “Shaping Space” research consortium. It maintains close and ongoing links with a strong international research network comprising universities, research institutes, governments, civil society and businesses.
Through their collaboration with Futurium, the researchers at the Berlin Open Lab are looking forward to a lively exchange with the workshop participants. Not only do they want to offer an inspiring insight into their research projects, but they are also very keen to receive feedback and ideas to help shape their future work!
