Futurium

Inventing futures

Inventing futures means developing ideas, trying them out and experimenting. Everyone – both young and old – can play an active part in shaping our world through creativity and participation. In the Futurium lab and through the holiday programme for children, you can try your hand at some exciting experiments using methods from futurology and design, and develop prototypes together.

Family Open Lab

Every Sunday from 12:00–16:00, we offer our Family Open Lab. You can explore questions about the future at Futurium Lab and playfully learn about the technical basics in robotics, 3D printing, programming or laser cutting.

What awaits you:

  • Ideas for the future of democracy. Use augmented reality and stickers to develop your ideas for living together tomorrow.
  • Logistics of the future. You will think about future logistics solutions with small learning robots.
  • 3D printing. Try out new production techniques when you make objects by hand or with our machines in the workshop.
  • Raw materials of the future. You will learn what "urban mining" is and develop your own product ideas.

The workshop themes alternate, offer different levels of difficulty and are suitable for everyone aged 10 and over.

Our workshop mentors speak English. They will be happy to assist you with the experiments and workshop. Just drop by the Futurium Lab on Sundays between 12:00 and 16:00. The workshops take place in a drop-in format, which means you can join in at any time. Free entrance. You can find all dates in our event list!

Holiday programm

Feeling bored during the holidays? Not if you come to Futurium! In our three-day holiday workshop, you’ll learn about methods of futurology. You’ll explore the exhibition, conduct interviews, and develop your own future scenarios. And then you’ll bring your visions to life as prototypes. You’ll use various tools to do this, such as 3D printers and laser cutters. Finally, you’ll present your ideas and prototypes.

Experience versions of the future

Learn more about possible future scenarios today and satisfy your curiosity about how the world of tomorrow might change: whether it's through the eyes of the kid reporters in the YouTube series or trying things out in the farming simulation – these online opportunities encourage children to explore the future in a playful way from home. They convey the idea that the future is an exciting opportunity that every child can help to shape consciously and independently.

YouTube Series “Fast, Forward, Future”

“Fast, Forward, Future” (“Zick, Zack, Zukunft”) is Futurium’s YouTube series with and for children. Should children be given the right to vote? How might our cities become more climate-friendly? Will we soon be relaxing on Mars? Young reporters ask Futurium’s experts their own questions on future-related topics: from robots and space travel to environmental protection. Five episodes, five topics of the future. Have a look!
