Just a thought and the washing machine switches on, the dishwasher starts up and the bathtub fills up with water. Will humans soon be able to control machines just by using their thoughts?
In the laboratory this is already taking place successfully to some extent. Researchers are trying to get a more precise understanding of how the brain functions. To this end, they are using computers with a direct link to our thoughts. This connection between brain and machine is expected, for example, to help paralysed people communicate. But can machines really understand us?
