Press Release 4 July 2023
Summer Programme at Futurium: Open-Air Quiz and Midnight Snack at the Long Night of the Museums
The open-air quizzes are all about the futures of democracy. On the Long Night of the Museums, Futurium will be taking its visitors on a culinary voyage of discovery and asking what we will be eating in the future. A special highlight will be the panel discussion “Academia in Exile”, where researchers and students will provide insights into the precarious human rights situation in their countries of origin.
Open-air quiz
On 6 July 2023, the first Open-air quiz – dedicated to the topic of the history of democracy – will take place on the Futurium forecourt. In August, the quizmasters will devote themselves first to the topic of elections under the title “The Crux with the Cross” and then to the role of social media in a democracy. The final quiz in September, “Party Party?”, will deal with the future of political parties.
Long Night of the Museums
„Midnight Snack @ Futurium: Tasting the food of the future and listening to stimulating ideas about it“
On Saturday, 26 August 2023, from 18:00 to 02:00, Futurium will be participating for the second time in the Long Night of the Museums. This year’s event will be all about food and nutrition in the future. Visitors can go on a culinary journey of discovery on our forecourt, letting themselves be inspired and informed by short lectures. At 20:00, for example, there will be a lecture on “Quinoa, Glasswort and Co. – Halophytes as a sustainable food alternative” by agricultural scientist and plant researcher Professor Monika Schreiner from the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ). She will explain why we should supplement our menus with salt plants such as glasswort – also known as halophytes – in addition to spinach, and how we can turn vegetables into nutritional superheroes. At 22:00, Giacomo Rossi from the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) will hold a short presentation on “Six Legs to a Sustainable Future – Exploring the potential of edible insects” (in English).
Academia in Exile
On 13 September 2023 at 19:30, Futurium will play host to researchers and students living in exile who will provide insights into the precarious human rights situations in their countries of origin. They will share with us their visions and hopes for a democratic future and talk about the experience of exile as the only possible shelter for their academic work. The event is organised together with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
New on the website: group registration
As of now, time slots for groups are available for booking on our website. Here, school classes, travel groups or the like can book time slot tickets to skip the queue. In the mornings, especially, when visitor numbers are high, waiting times can now be avoided.
