Some are still in the starting blocks, while others are already rushing ahead. To save the climate, we need – among many other things – wind turbines, solar panels and electric batteries. Their production requires metals with special properties – such as lithium, nickel and cobalt. Many countries have to import these so-called critical raw materials from elsewhere. To do this, they develop their own strategies. The rules of the game are not always fair in this race.
