The Workshop in the Lab

A space for shaping the future

The workshop in the Futurium Lab is an open learning space for visitors of all ages, inviting them to explore future technologies and topics. The workshop is divided into two spaces: the machine room, which is equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters and robots, among other devices, and the workshop room, which offers opportunities for creative exchange and collaborative work.

How do we want to live in the future?

Futurium inspires you to think about possible future scenarios and encourages you to play an active and self-determined role in shaping them. In the workshop, you can acquire so-called future skills such as creative thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.

We use approaches derived from futures thinking – a method that combines elements of futurology, storytelling and design thinking. The aim is to analyse current trends, as well as understand future challenges and opportunities, and in this way shape desirable futures.

Why is the Lab so important for the future?

The Lab is not just about creating prototypes, but also about the process behind it: learning, trying things out and working together. You are actively involved and take on responsibilities instead of just taking everything in passively. You learn to experiment, develop and implement your own ideas – a process that strengthens and empowers you.

A key component of this approach is playful learning. In the Lab, knowledge is not only imparted but made tangible through practical action. This kind of experiential learning motivates you to take a closer look at future-related issues and develop creative solutions. The workshop is therefore more than just a production site – it’s a space for playful learning, exchange and creativity. This is where active participation in shaping the future begins.

Our formats

Family Open Lab

Every Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00, we give you the Family Open Lab, where you can experiment together and learn the basics of robotics, 3D printing, laser cutting or programming in a fun way.

Our Raw Materials of the Future

Together, we delve into the world of “urban mining” and discover how we can collect raw materials – sustainably and directly in our city.

Ideas for Shaping the Future of Democracy

You discuss the future of democracy and formulate your own ideas for desirable futures. You then design them – either digitally as augmented reality in the room or physically as templates with the laser cutter.

Logistics of the Future

You explore together how autonomous vehicles might influence our everyday lives in the future by interacting with Ozobots and controlling them through colour codes on self-drawn courses, while thinking and reflecting on questions of the future.

Product Design and 3D Printing

Imagine that you yourself could produce everything you need for your everyday life right at home. How would our lives change if we could build things ourselves in the future? And how might this actually work?
