How far will we go to save nature?

Making a comeback

What if woolly mammoths were able to stomp their way across the tundra again? Or if other species that have disappeared made a comeback thanks to biotechnology? We are joining you in a commitment to a promise that sounds like science fiction – and yet became a reality some time ago: the return of extinct species.

“Endings: The Comeback” – the new episode of the podcast from Undone and Futurium, released in November 2025 – follows scientists who are trying to do just that. It raises questions that go far beyond the laboratory and the research itself: Can we really turn back time? What does it say about our relationship with nature? Inspired by the insights on our podcast, our guests take a closer look at this vision. In the tension between hope and hubris, technological possibilities and ethical questions, the focus is on the limits of what is possible – and what role these technologies could play in the future. How would the “retrieval” of nature affect the future of our landscapes, biodiversity and resource utilisation? Ultimately, everything revolves around the question of how we as human beings want to coexist with nature: as guardians, creators or repairers.
