AI promises to treat illnesses more effectively, tackle climate change and simplify our daily lives. At the same time, concerns about disinformation, manipulation and a loss of control are mounting. Which tasks do we want to leave to machines in future, and in which areas will humans remain irreplaceable? We ask: ‘Where do we currently stand on the subject of AI – and how do we want to shape its development in the future?’

Dr-Ing. Hubert Zitt studied electrical engineering and works as a lecturer on the Computer Science degree programme at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, Zweibrücken Campus. In addition to his day-to-day teaching duties, Hubert Zitt has gained notoriety across Germany (and beyond) for his lectures on Star Trek. Together with Gene Roddenberry Jr, the son of the creator of Star Trek, Zitt wrote the foreword to the book Star Trek in Germany in 2008. In autumn 2008, he taught the ‘Physics of Star Trek’ as a regular course over a full semester at a university in San Antonio, Texas. Hubert Zitt has now given more than 400 lectures on Star Trek, Star Wars and other sci-fi films, and has appeared on TV programmes. In 2012, his agency, 5-Sterne-Redner, honoured him with the Most Exceptional Speaker of the Year Award.
