Launch of the MuseumsMeileMitte
How the Neighbourhood Festival went
Last Saturday, the MuseumsMeileMitte Neighbourhood Festival was more than a successful launch: it was a sign of how culture can work within urban space. With the coming together of Futurium, Hamburger Bahnhof, the Berlin Medical History Museum of the Charité, and the Museum of Natural History, a shared experiential space was created in the heart of Berlin – and the response was enormous.

Visitors could start the morning examining Berlin insects under a microscope at the Natural History Museum, spend midday at Futurium thinking about the future of raw materials, wander through 300 years of medical history at the Medical History Museum in the afternoon – and round off the evening with a concert. Between Invalidenpark and Humboldthafen, from the Südpanke to the Spree, the four institutions offer knowledge and culture spanning from the origins of our solar system through the present and into the future. All on foot, all free of charge, all in one day. A few impressions:
One tour, four museums
The mile is best explored on a walk. Starting mid-July, these take place on Saturdays and show how the neighbourhood developed from a peripheral area of meadows and marshland into a cultural hub. Participation in the 90-minute MuseumsMeileMitte walk is – with prior registration – free of charge.
