Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle Shows Some of Its Latest Works at Futurium

From 31 August to 5 September 2022, the three research platforms of Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle will be showcasing their design visions for vibrant, digital, critical and sustainable futures in the pop-up exhibition “BurgLabs present” in Berlin’s Futurium Lab.

BurgLabs makers Johann Bauerfeind, Henning Frančik, Fabian Hütter, Simon Maris, Alexa Steinbrück and Ina Turinsky will be presenting their takes on the relationship between natural and human-made environments and seeking to provide new impulses, especially in the field of material technology developments.

Within the framework of the presentation, a total of five different projects from the three research labs will be on display, illustrating the potential of using art and design to shape our future.

The pop-up exhibition will be accompanied by an Open Lab Night on Thursday, 1 September 2022, from 18:00 to 20:00. BurgLabs will be presenting scenarios of desirable ways to live. Together with experts from various institutions, the artists and designers want to discuss these scenarios with the participants. In addition, the individual projects are also presented online at www.burglabs.de.

At Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle’s BurgLabs, experimental and design research has been conducted on materials and technology – and across disciplinary boundaries – since 2020. BurgLabs see themselves as an inspiring research environment for testing visions and letting possible futures emerge. Three research platforms – SustainLab, BioLab and XLab – focus on the topics of sustainability, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and robotics. With the works exhibited at “BurgLabs present”, the platforms provide insights into their previous design research in the border areas of design and science.
