Event with Julian Janssen from the “Checker Julian” programme of the children’s television channel KiKA
Family Show: Treasures of the Future
To kick off the new annual theme “Treasures of the Future”, Futurium will be presenting its very first family show. Are you thinking of zoning out and watching from the sofa? We aren’t! After all, the show needs you and your favourite everyday companion, namely, your mobile phone.

In this interactive event, we’ll be accompanying our moderator Julian, known from the KiKA programme “Checker Julian”, to a repair café. Actually, he only wants to drop something off to be repaired, but right from the start the visit takes a different turn from what he expected... His appliance is missing an important component – gold!
The search for this valuable raw material will take us around the globe and along the supply chain to a gold mine in Central Africa. Julian will be using virtual reality glasses to explore this natural treasure trove. Is there anything to be found here for our repair in Berlin?
Back at the repair café, we now have to ask ourselves a few important questions of the future: how well can cell phones really be repaired? What can a sustainable and fair economic cycle look like? How can technology help us? And what materials will be crucial in the future?
Guests:
- Julian Janssen, moderator. Host of the KiKA programme “Checker Julian”.
- Thomas Umbescheidt, repair coach. In real life, Thomas works as “The Green Technician” in Nauen, Brandenburg.
