“Subsonum” is an interactive art installation by Benjamin Frick. It makes the hidden sounds and movements of the floor perceptible. A special wooden platform with a built-in shaker is used for this purpose. It transmits the vibrations from the ground directly to the body. The recordings come from a worm compost, which is home to a particularly large number of small creatures. A piezo microphone recorded the fine movements there.
The aim of “Subsonum” is to heighten our senses and create an awareness of the vitality of healthy soil. By adopting the perspective of the smallest living creatures, visitors experience the subtle sounds and movements of the earth. This encourages a playful exploration of sustainability and environmental protection. A handful of healthy earth contains more living creatures than there are people in the world. “Subsonum amplifies this hidden world and brings it to life for you.
